Bead Blog

comments welcome!

I am a perfectionist in my work, which is both a blessing and a curse. When I do work with Polymer Clay I accept that there will be mistakes and trial and error (not to mention cramped hands) but I’m always looking to improve.

When I started out making clay jewelry I wanted the clay beads to be shiny and glossy, so I started coating my finished pieces in Polyurethane, it looked fabulous, but over time peeled. The weird part is it didn’t always peel….if I applied it on my finished clay pieces on a sunny day they turned out perfect, if it clouded over outside the same jewelry would eventually have the polyurethane peel off, very frustrating if you’ve spent 10 hours making a bead set only to ruin them.

So I set out to find the best way to make my beads shiny, a lasting beautiful shine. It turns out the hardest way is the best; Sanding by hand using automotive grade sandpaper in 6 to 10 different grits from 6000 to 12000 usually. It looks great, perfect. The only problem? It takes a ton of time and ends with me having cramped hands.

This is why my handcrafted items are not generally the same price as other craft jewelry, I take my time in making it the best it can be for my customers. Sure, you can buy more inexpensive items on Etsy, but I value your hard earned dollars and want you to have the very best.

The image below shows the differences and my experimentation.

I know this is not related to beading, this isn’t even my dog, but I had to post this.

We have a Boston terrier dog too, if it was missing I would move heaven and earth to find him…so PLEASE repin, repost and share.

There was a small hiccup with our contest…it ended a week early! The software goofed, so my apologies, but that just means we’re going to have another giveaway! This time everything will go perfectly; Birds will be chirping, the sky will be blue and all the software in the world will do what is asked of it….

Details coming soon

BUT the winner of our current contest has been notified via e-mail 🙂

So many good deals to be had. I absolutely love finding the perfect gift for loved ones, and I’m sure you do too! As a small thanks to our customers we are having a sale….30% off everything!

Last year we donated several pieces for the silent auction and dinner to Benefit Last Hope Cat Kingdom, a no kill animal shelter in California. We are proud to say that we will be doing it again this year as all of our works sold out!

We had our first ever show booth (it was a huge success!), and have been working diligently behind the scenes making great new designs for you!

More coming VERY soon!

Just in, we now have a separate “Beaded Earrings” category to make finding earrings even easier for our customers. New items will be added on a regular basis, in fact we have several in the design process right now!
